Dog Dental Care and Natural Treatment

Dog dental care is extremely important and often a critical forgotten treatment by pet owners.

The development of gum disease and bacteria build up can trigger inflammation in the gums that can lead to other parts of the body triggering illnesses earlier than necessary.

99% of dogs have some form of Periodontal disease. It is the most common infectious disease of dogs that can be prevented with professional annual teeth cleanings and at home brushing.

Signs Your Dog Has Dental Trouble

  • Red, inflamed, or bleeding gums when brushing teeth.
  • Painful chewing
  • Bad Breath
  • Tartar Build Up
  • Worn Teeth, facial swelling.
  • Loose, missing, or infected teeth.
  • Gums that bleed easily when touched.

Yay for Non Anesthesia Teeth Cleanings!- Many areas with more holistic natural dog health care are now offering anesthesia free dental cleanings for anywhere from $60 to $300 depending on where you get it done and who performs the service.

Laws and regulations vary from state to state, and some dogs need such severe dog dental work that they need to be put under anesthesia by a vet.

However, the non-anesthesia dog dental cleaning can be a great option for regular and less expensive dog dental care without the risks of drug side effects.

    Brushing Your Dogs Teeth

  • It is ideal to brush your dogs teeth daily according to vet recommendations, a few times a week will still be wonderful for your pet.

  • Easy home teeth brushing for your dog can be done with a dog tooth brush from a pet store (or a medium/soft human toothbrush) and a little baking soda or several drops of grape fruit seed extract mixed with a water.

You can always buy fancy flavored dog toothpaste as well, but they don't all work the same for dog dental care.

  • Learn to brush your dogs teeth by introducing it gently in short durations at first.

Start one tooth at a time and work up to longer brushings through the entire mouth over a period of days or weeks depending on your dog's disposition.

  • ,b>Supply Good Teeth Cleaning Chew Toys!-Natural dog bones that are too large to swallow. STAY AWAY FROM RAWHIDES (They can cause bad bacteria and intestinal problems.)

  • DRY DOG FOOD DOES NOT CLEAN TEETH-Many advertising gimmicks falsely induce this myth. A healthy natural diet and sometimes raw food diets can be best for teeth problems.

  • Antioxidant Therapy to reduce Inflammation, bleeding gums, and pain:
  • - Coenzyme Q10

-According to Shawn Messonnier, D.V.M., CoQ10 has been seen as very safe for use on dogs. A regular dose is 0.25 to 1.0 mg per pound of body weight.

You can give this amount as a daily supplement and also dilute it with water and rub it directly on the gums of your pet! Quick and easy natural treatment.

-Other antioxidants to reduce inflammation and cell damage:

-Lemon Juice-If your dog is older or has gum problems related to low saliva production, then applying a drop of lemon juice to your pet’s mouth twice a day can stimulate flow of saliva to help rinse the gums.

-Colloidal Silver- This is an affordable easy to apply natural antibacterial treatment to put directly on the gums and teeth. It is important to purchase it from a good source in order to get the best potency.

-Bilberry-This can be used as a supplement and is also commonly used as a great eye care supplement for vision and cataract prevention.

-Grapefruit Seed Extract- I dilute several drops in water and brush my dogs teeth with it. It works great like a natural antibiotic and gets rid of bleeding after regular treatment for dog dental care.

-Olive Leaf Extract, Pycnogenol, and Quercetin can also be used, applied orally directly on the gums or given as a supplement.

Veterinarian Treated Orthomolecular Medicine (High Dose Antioxidant Therapy)

This highly effective healing therapy must be monitored because some doses can be toxic when not watched closely by a licensed professional, such as with too much Vitamin A.

When treated under holistic veterinarian care, high dose antioxidants with vitamins A,C, E, and selenium can be given both as supplements and applied topically to gums and teeth.

Strictly Veterinarian Monitored Doses Recommended by Shawn Messioner,D.V.M.,for Dog Dental Care (These doses must be monitored by your vet to prevent toxicity!)

Vitamin A: Large Dogs: up to 30,000 IU, Small Dogs 10,000 IU

Crystalline Ascorbic Acid (Vit.C): Large Dogs up to 3,000 mg, Small Dogs Up to 750 mg

Vitamin E: Large Dogs up to 2,400 IU, Small Dogs up to 800 IU
