Dog Food Ingredients To Look For

Dog Food Ingredients To Keep In and To Keep Out

The majority of dog food ingredients should be a quality meat protein source combined with fresh ground vegetables with minimal fruits, fats, and starches.

Unfortunately, many cheap dog food brands are full of meat by products that are unfit for human consumption. It is best to only buy quality meat without hormones.

What To Look For

-The first ingredients are the bulk amount of the food. Make sure it is just a basic meat like chicken, turkey, salmon, not salmon by product or meal. Be sure to look for meat that has not been treated with hormones or antibiotics.

-AVOID Corn and Soy: Avoid these cheap fillers that are causing so many health problems in pets. Often the soy and corn are also genetically modified.

Soy has been shown to also have estrogenic effects on the body when consumed in large amounts.

-No Artificial Colors, Flavors, Preservatives

Organic Dog Food Ingredients

-Looking for organic food ingredients will help lower the amount of toxin absorption in your dog’s body.

Because so many pets are already overwhelmed with environmental toxins, getting it out of their food can help to not overload their immune systems.

More Meat and Veggies, Little or no fruit, starches, grains.

-Some fruits are very healthy for dogs like blueberries for antioxidants and eye health, but too much fruit can add a lot of sugar, so limiting fruits to small amounts is best.

-Many pets especially with dog skin problems seem to do best with no grains and starches. These seem to aggravate some skin conditions and can contribute to yeast problems in dogs.

-Carrots, peas, potatoes, and rice are all healthy foods but once again should be limited because they can have a higher glycemic effect on the body like sugars can. Try to use these ingredients sparingly in dogs with yeast problems and skin problems related to inflammation.

-Heathier alternatives can be sweet potatoes or quinoa for more fiber and protein.
