Dog Skin Allergies

Dog skin allergies are becoming more common as more pets are developing sensitivities due to higher stress levels on their immune systems.

There are a variety of things that can contribute to this such as genetics, poor diet, low quality dog foods, an overload of environmental toxins, and lack of fresh nutrients and omega fats like fish oil in the diet.

Finding out if your pet has Candida and too much yeast causing itchy skin, ear infections, and inflammation can help decrease allergic reactions.

However, there are many reasons for dog skin problems that sometimes may look and seem like an allergy, but are actually another problem in the body triggering itching and skin irritation.

Get a Proper Diagnosis Before Going On Meds

Because there are so many other triggers for conditions that look like allergies, it is important to try to eliminate some of the most common dog illnesses that can trigger symptoms that seem like dog skin allergies.

Many causes can be eliminated with a proper skin scraping test.

Corticosteroids, Itchy Dog Skin and Mange

One important reason to try your best to get a proper diagnosis before putting your pet on strong medications are the risk of negative side effects for the wrong dog illness.

For example, many dogs are prescribed corticosteroids for allergic like symptoms, but these suppress the immune system.

If it turns out your pet does not respond but gets worse, it could be an illness such as mange where a strong immune system is needed in order to heal.

If the dog has been on steroids, then their mange can get much worse and be harder to cure as a result.

There are some easy tips on how to manage dry dog skin with home remedies like applying extra virgin coconut oil to your pet!
