Homemade Dog Treats
Homemade dog treats help you save money and have more control over the quality of ingredients in your pet’s diet. Many dog treats are filled with low quality by products and sugars that sometimes do more harm than good. I have put my healthy hippie spin on a few of these recipes from natural organic dog food ingredients. Dog Health Food Snack Recipes
Peanut Butter Dog Treats, Grain Free!
Organic Dog Treats For Dog Skin Problems, Dog Skin Allergies, or Yeast Issues Here are some tasty dog treat recipes that are all corn, wheat, and soy free. They are suitable for many pets with allergies. If you are dealing with dog skin problems with candida or yeast issues, then I would always stick to dried meats or veggies for their treats and omit grains.I have altered some of these recipes to make them more healthy and allergy friendly. Easy Homemade Dog Treat RecipesCrunchy Sweet Potato SticksIngredients: 2 large sweet potatoes ¼ cup Olive OilStep 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Step 2: Scrub 2 large sweet potatoes and cut off any rough edges, then slice into thin sticks. (The thinner, the crunchier.) Step3: Drizzle or brush ¼ cup Olive Oil over sweet potatoes. Step 4: Bake approx. 25 min. or until lightly brown and crunchy. - Cool and store in airtight container or bag for up to one week at room temperature or freeze a large batch and take out weekly portions. -Hippie Dog Tip: This recipe is full of beta carotene and fiber.
Flax Coconut Apple ChipsIngredients: 3 large apples1 tablespoon Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice 2 tablespoons Organic Virgin Coconut Oil1/8 cup Ground FlaxseedStep 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Step 2: Slice Apples into thin strips and squares, place on cookie sheet and toss with orange juice. Step 3: Add 2 tablespoons of Organic Coconut Oil. This is usually solid at room temperature, so add and when melted in the oven after a minute, toss all the apples to thoroughly spread the coconut oil. Step 4: Bake approx. 20 minutes until crispy, but not burnt. -Then remove from oven and sprinkle the ground flax over the apple chips so they will stick to the oil while it's warm. Once cool, place in the fridge to solidify the oil and the flax. - Store homemade dog treats in an airtight container or bag for up to one week at room temperature or freeze a large batch and take out weekly portions. *For a less messy treat you can omit the flax, but this adds extra good omega fatty acids and fiber. Hippie Dog Tip:Organic coconut oil is excellent for candida because it has anti-fungal properties and is also full of healthy omega 3 fats. It also speeds up the metabolism. *Homemade Dog Treats Reference: I put a more allergy free healthy hippie spin on some of these recipes from the “Everything Cooking For Dogs Book,” by Lisa Fortunado. They are creative recipes, but the ones in the book are not all very healthy for dogs and are made a little too much like the classic American diet for humans, not dogs.
