Supplements for Dogs

Supplements for dogs can enhance healing and increase absorption of nutrients in dog food. It is a good idea to check with a vet who is experienced and educated in dog nutrition and supplements before making changes to your dog health plan.

There are many herbs and vitamins that can increase dog health especially for pets undergoing cancer illness or common joint supplements for dogs.

However, it is important to learn and experiment with what works specifically for your pet. Sometimes sensitive pets need less ingredients and starting slow can help you read what may irritate or help them in the beginning.

Here are some common supplements for dogs that are often missing from most generic or cheap dog foods:

  • Digestive Enzyme: Many dogs are now lacking enzymes needed to break down nutrients during digestion.

They would normally get this in the wild by consuming fresh raw foods and meats. However, since many dogs eat dry food that is sometimes years old with preservatives, they often lack this and can develop imbalances from not receiving it.

  • Probiotics: Due to the high level of antibiotic use in so many pets today, often the beneficial bacteria in the intestines is removed and not replaced.

This can trigger problems with yeast and fungus in the body and lead to further problems with inflammation like skin disorders and ear infections.

  • Vitamin C Powder: A pinch of this can help build up the immune system and eliminate toxins from the body by decreasing inflammation and cellular repair.

Due to the high level of environmental toxins and food pesticides, most dogs have a lot weighing on their immune systems and need a little more help.

  • Green Powders: Adding a quality green powder to your pets food can help give them some of the nutrients they may be missing from low quality dry dog foods that are filled with cheap carbohydrate fillers like corn and soy.

There are many green powders to choose from that have a high nutrient content.

  • Spirulina: This can be fed to animals daily in small doses especially for pets with skin and allergy problems and poor immune systems.

This is one of the most widely used health products in Japan to increase life span, clear toxins, and prevent illness. It has a very high protein and alkalinity and is known as a superfood that can give your pet a beautiful coat and clear eyes.
